How to find and export your CompanyCam data for AI training

CompanyCam shows how much data you have in its project export, a CSV listing the photo, video and document counts for every project, which an Admin or Manager runs on the web app from User Icon > Company Settings > Exports. The full history leaves CompanyCam project by project, with Download All Photos in each project's three-dot menu delivering zipped files by email on any plan. Below, you'll find what CompanyCam data is and why AI labs and data vendors buy it, how to count your files, what to know before you apply, every export step, and what stays private.

Key takeaways

  • CompanyCam's project export lists the photo, video and document counts for every project, so adding the three columns gives your total number of files.
  • Only Admins and Managers can run the export, and only on the web app; anyone on the account can download photos on any plan.
  • Photos come out one project at a time through Download All Photos, as zipped files by email, in batches when a project has more than 1,500; ask CompanyCam support about bulk export of the whole library.
  • You don't need to download anything to apply: have your file count, years of history and seat count ready, and the data vendor anonymizes the records before any AI lab sees them.

01

What is CompanyCam data, and why do AI labs and data vendors buy it?

The short answer

CompanyCam data is the library of job-site photos, videos and documents that a contracting company's crews capture in CompanyCam, a photo app that files every picture under the project it belongs to. AI labs (companies that build and train AI models) and data vendors (companies that anonymize business records and package them for those labs) buy a copy because the photos are tagged with a place and a time, so they show what a job site looked like before, during and after the work.

What a CompanyCam account records

Contractors such as roofers, restorers and builders use CompanyCam so that field crews can take photos on a phone and have them land in the right project, which is one job at one address. Each photo carries the location where it was taken and the time, and many carry labels and checklists that the crew filled in on site. Videos and documents, such as signed forms, can be attached to the same project.

Why a job-site photo teaches an AI model something

An AI model learns by studying a very large number of examples and finding the patterns in them, and those examples are called training data. A labeled photo of damaged roofing, taken at a known address on a known date, is an example of what that damage looks like and what the crew called it. Thousands of such photos taken before, during and after repairs show how a condition changes as the work proceeds.

AI labs now also want to train AI agents, software that carries out a job step by step, and an agent learns a job from records of that job being done. A photo series with its checklist can show an agent what a finished job looks like at each stage. The full mechanism is in AI training data: why AI companies want your company's data.

How CompanyCam fits into a dataset

CompanyCam is usually one of several apps in a company's dataset, next to the system that holds its jobs and invoices. Companies are paid $100K to $2M or more per dataset, according to micro1, the data vendor we typically refer companies to. The price covers the whole dataset, not each app on its own, and what your data is worth explains what moves it.

02

Where does CompanyCam show how much data you have?

The short answer

CompanyCam shows your totals in the project export, a CSV that lists the photo count, video count and document count for every project. An Admin or Manager runs it on the web app from the User Icon > Company Settings > Exports tab, and CompanyCam emails the file. Add the three count columns together to get your total number of files.

How to count your files

The steps below follow CompanyCam's help article on exporting project and checklist data. The export is available on the web app only, not on the mobile app.

  1. Log in to CompanyCam on the web with an Admin or Manager account.
  2. Click your User Icon in the sidebar, choose Company Settings and open the Exports tab.
  3. Click the Menu Icon, set the date range so it spans every year you have used CompanyCam, and select Project.
  4. Click Export .CSV. CompanyCam emails the file to the address on your account, so check your spam folder if it does not arrive.
  5. Open the file and add up the photo count, video count and document count columns. Larger accounts can take a few minutes to produce it.

Who can run the export

The roles decide who can run the export and who can download photos.

What the project export lists

Each row is a project, with its ID, name, full address, latitude and longitude, date created, photo count, document count, video count, labels, users and last activity. CompanyCam counts files directly, which makes the file count a better size measure for a photo tool than a count of records.

03

What should you know about your CompanyCam data before you apply?

The short answer

Have three facts ready: how many files your CompanyCam account holds, how many years it covers and how many people are on your plan. They go into the data manifest, the written summary of which apps hold your records, how many years each covers and roughly how much. You don't need to run an export of the photos to find them.

The file count

The file count is the sum of the photo, video and document columns in the project export. Report it as files, since a photo library is measured by the images it holds.

The years of history

The years of history come from the oldest date created in the project export. That date marks when the project was created in CompanyCam, so it is a close guide to how far back your photos reach.

The number of seats

A seat is one person with a user account on your CompanyCam plan, whether Admin, Manager or Standard User. The user count shown for your plan gives the figure.

What you don't need to do first

You don't need to download photos to apply, and you don't need to clean or scrub anything. The data vendor anonymizes the records before anyone else sees them, and nothing moves until a lawyer-reviewed license is signed. The application, the intro call and each later step are laid out in how to sell your company's data.

04

How do you export your full CompanyCam history?

The short answer

Run the project export to get the list of every project, then download the photos one project at a time with Download All Photos from each project's three-dot menu. Photos arrive as zipped files by email, and anyone on the account can download them on any plan. CompanyCam's help pages describe no one-click download of the whole library, so ask CompanyCam support about that.

Step one: the project list

The project CSV is your inventory, because it names every project with its address, labels, users and dates. Run it as described in the section on finding your total, so that you have a checklist of projects to work through.

Step two: the photos, project by project

The photo download is covered in CompanyCam's article on downloading and saving photos.

  1. Open a project on the web app.
  2. Click the 3 Dot Icon in the top right of the project and choose Download All Photos.
  3. Enter the email address that should receive the download.
  4. Choose Original or Modified. This choice appears only when some photos have been edited.
  5. Save each zip file when it arrives, or press Download Photos in the browser to take it directly.

Projects with more than 1,500 photos are split into several batches, and each batch is emailed with its own link as soon as it is ready. The same article also covers downloading selected photos, a single day's photos or a single photo.

DOWNLOAD ALL PHOTOS The same project, two exports Every photo in the projectIncluded Original or edited versionsYour choice Counts, labels and usersNot included DeliveredZIP by email The files, one project at a time.
The same CompanyCam project exported two ways. The project CSV counts what you hold across the account, and Download All Photos delivers the images for one project at a time, so a full export needs both.

What the exports leave out

The photo download carries photos only, so the videos and documents counted in the project CSV need a separate request. Each download covers one project, and CompanyCam does not publish storage limits by plan. Ask CompanyCam support whether the whole library, videos and documents included, can be exported in bulk.

CompanyCam also offers a checklist export from the same Exports tab. It lists each checklist's tasks, completed and skipped counts, contributors and latest contribution date, which helps if checklists are part of your records.

05

What stays private when CompanyCam data is licensed?

The short answer

The company decides which projects are in scope, and the data vendor replaces names and other identifying details before an AI lab sees anything. The company keeps ownership of its CompanyCam library, and the license covers defined material for a defined use.

Photos can show people and addresses

A job-site photo can include a homeowner, a face, a house number or a street sign. For that reason the company chooses which projects are included, and residential jobs can be left out while commercial ones stay in.

How identifying details are handled

Anonymization means replacing every detail that identifies a person, such as a name or an address, with a stand-in that is the same every time it appears. Faces in photos need different tools from text, and material that cannot be cleaned safely is excluded instead. The method is in how company data is anonymized for AI training.

Ownership and payment

Licensing gives the buyer limited rights to a copy, while the company keeps ownership of the originals. The terms that matter, such as exclusivity, permitted use and deletion, are covered in data licensing. micro1 pays in full within 30 days of accepting the data, usually as a single payment.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who can export the CompanyCam project list?

Only Admins and Managers, and only on the web app. A Standard User has to ask one of them to run it, and the mobile app has no project export.

Can we download original photos or the edited versions?

Both. When any photos in a download have been edited or marked up, CompanyCam asks whether you want the Original or the Modified versions. If nothing was edited, it skips the question because only one version exists.

Can we download every photo in the account at once?

Not by any method CompanyCam documents. Its Download All Photos option works for one project at a time, or for photos you select. Ask CompanyCam support whether a full-library export is available for your account.

Do large projects come as one zip file?

No. A project with more than 1,500 photos is split into batches, and CompanyCam emails each batch with its own download link as soon as it finishes.

Does the project CSV contain the photos?

No. It lists the counts of photos, videos and documents for each project, with the address, labels, users and dates, so it works as an inventory. The images come from the separate photo download.

Do we need to download our photos before we apply?

No. The application takes about two minutes and shares no data. You only need your file count, your years of history and your seat count for the intro call, and the project CSV gives you the first two. The photo downloads happen later, after you sign the license.

What are CompanyCam photos worth to AI labs and data vendors?

CompanyCam photos are priced as part of a whole dataset rather than on their own. Companies are paid $100K to $2M or more per dataset, according to micro1, and the price depends on the years of history and how completely the records show each job. What your data is worth explains the factors.

Bottom line

Know what is in CompanyCam, then see what it is worth

You don't need to export anything to apply. Apply in two minutes, describe your records on the intro call, and micro1, the data vendor we typically refer companies to, prices the whole dataset and sends an offer 1–2 days later.

Not legal, tax or financial advice. Figures come from micro1's published pages and public reporting as of November 2026.
